First Day of School Idea

On the first day of school, I want to to dive into thinking, creating, writing, and sharing. One way I could do this is to have each student choose an object from a bag and have them free write, comparing themselves to the object. The objects could range from household items to pictures of animals, food, etc. They could write, compare, analyze, and share about themselves all at once! I could also have the students do a collage with pictures from magazines and write about how the pictures represent their lives.
